Taken soon after we moved to Larch Cottage, this compiled panoramic view shows the land that was to become the garden many years later. But first there were sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks and goats on the small fields visible beyond the wall and fences to the left. The foreground became the first part of the garden, and two embryonic rose beds can be seen near the bird table. One of the border collies is just visible on the left. On the right hand side came the secret garden and in the distance we eventually planted many specimen trees.
